Software Architect

Job Title: Software Architect - Nature Analytics SaaS Platform

Location: Philadelphia Area / Hybrid / Remote

Job Type: Full time

Compensation: Base salary $80k to $150k, depending on experience, plus equity

Position Overview:

Are you tired of working long hours on uninspired software that is ultimately boring and not impactful? We’re leveraging technology and financial risk to show companies that they NEED to put the effort in to try and save the planet.

Do you hate the technologies, frameworks, and toolsets that you got saddled with because someone made an arbitrary decision over ten years ago? Now YOU can be the ones making those decisions! (Please don’t make them arbitrarily)

Has upper management, with no understanding of the development process, made an arbitrary decision about how you should do your job? Our whole team has worked in tech and have a solid track record of listening to people that know what they’re talking about.

Hate that mounting pile of tech-debt? We don’t have ANY!

We are looking for an experienced software architect who is passionate about doing something truly impactful. Someone who wants to really take the reins and find the best path forward. We are a startup and you’re going to need to wear a lot of hats, but you’re also going to have a lot of say in how things get done. We’re building things from the ground up, so a broad knowledge of technology platforms is going to be key.

About Dunya Analytics:

Dunya Analytics offers a digital platform (SaaS) to screen for nature-related financial risks and opportunities across a company's operations and supply chain. With biodiversity loss emerging as the next global crisis after climate change, regulator and investor calls for risk disclosures are on the rise. However, measuring nature risk is laborious, expensive, and requires subject matter expertise, making it impossible to scale. Experts in tech, biodiversity, economics and risk teamed up at Dunya Analytics to make nature risk analysis and reporting as easy and scalable as financial reporting, illuminating the pathway for every company to become ‘nature positive’.

In short, our goal is to show companies that there is a financial incentive to protect our planet.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of project requirements, carefully selecting and implementing most appropriate tools and technologies for the job.

  • Formulate, document, and enforce robust coding standards that enhance code quality and enable future development.

  • Architect foundational software systems with a focus on long-term scalability and maintainability, ensuring the foundation for future growth and evolution.

  • Integrate security best practices into the software development lifecycle, safeguarding the integrity and confidentiality of data and systems.

  • Collaborate with a small but diverse team, including environmental scientists, data scientists, and stakeholders, fostering an inclusive environment that capitalizes on varied perspectives.

  • Implement and enforce best practices for version control, configuration management, and continuous monitoring of systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 4+ years experience as a Software Architect or 8+ years with a similar role in a software development environment.

  • Passion for nature conservation and a strong commitment to using technology for environmental sustainability, with an appreciation for diverse perspectives.

  • In-depth knowledge of software design principles, patterns, and best practices.

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with a strong foundation in full-stack development.

  • Experience with using and setting up cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with an emphasis on fostering an inclusive and supportive team environment.

  • Ability to mentor and lead a team of software developers, encouraging diversity and inclusivity.
